General

Our Bavarian Smokies come in a natural hog casing, while our Sizzlin' Smokies have no casing at all, not even collagen. The Bavarian Smokies are also a bit bigger with a more gradual curve.

While we do offer all-beef products, they aren’t currently certified Kosher or Halal.

All of our meat products are gluten-free, and we also have some gluten-free tortillas. That being said, we always recommend that you read the ingredient lists carefully.
Yes. Even though meat processors are not required to pass Federal government inspection before their goods can be offered for sale to the public, Grimm's Fine Foods has chosen to adhere to strict guidelines set out by Agriculture Canada. While it can be more expensive and labour intensive, we believe the quality of our products and the health of our customers is well worth the extra effort.
Grimm's products are naturally smoked in traditional style smoke houses. We use all natural North American hardwood chips (Alder, Beech and Maple) and no artificial ingredients (liquid smoke).
All of Grimm’s meat products are fully cooked and ready to eat, except for our Thick Cut Bacon.

Ingredients

Our Sizzlin’ Smokies & Sausage Toppers don’t have a casing on them, but they’re produced in a fibrous casing that gets peeled off before they get packaged.

Our Bavarian Smokies, Poppers, & Sausage Rings are made with a natural hog casing.

Our European Wieners are made with a natural lamb casing.

Our Pepperoni & Pepperoni Bites are made with an artificial collagen casing derived from bovine. This includes our Grass-Fed Beef Sticks.

Sodium phosphate is a generic term for a variety of salts of sodium and phosphate. Phosphates occur naturally in meat but dissipate during the curing process. We simply add it back in to optimize the texture of the meat.
Yes, some of our products may contain nitrites. The purpose of adding sodium nitrite is to inhibit the growth of botulism as well as enhance the natural meat appearance. Cultured celery extract is a natural form of nitrite.
We use Sodium Erythorbate, which is similar to Vitamin C, to enhance the natural meat appearance.

The spices in Grimm’s recipes are a closely guarded secret. What we can share is that we use whole, natural spices like pepper, anise, and coriander, along with plenty of fresh ingredients that give our products their wholesome, delicious flavour.

Storage

Our products can absolutely be frozen to extend their shelf life. When you’re ready to enjoy them, we recommend letting them thaw in the fridge for about 24 hours before cooking or eating them. Our products are still perfectly safe to eat after being frozen, but quality can vary depending on how they’re stored, as things like freezer burn may affect the taste and texture.

Our products all have recommended guidelines on how many days our products keep their quality after being opened. This is generally between 3-5 days to capture the maximum freshness in our product. It will not spoil right after that timeline, but freshness and taste will decline as the days go on.

Deli meats should be consumed within 2-3 days of opening, even if the date is different than the Best Before Date on the package.
All products that require refrigeration should be stored at 4° C (40°F).

No, our Meat Snacks do not require any refrigeration, even after opening. This includes our Grass-Fed Beef Sticks, Grass-Fed Beef Jerky, Mini Peps, Dry Pepperoni, and Salami Bites.
